Congratulations to MPAMOT Africa for winning a commendation for the best international project of the year at the CESA AON Awards!!

The Government of Zimbabwe initiated the Beitbridge Border Post upgrade and modernisation project to be implemented as a Private Public Partnership. The project reached financial close on 26 November 2020, whereafter Construction began.

The construction was undertaken in phases over a period of 28 months. It included the construction of ancillary infrastructure, new terminals and installing state-of-the-art information technology and automation systems. In addition, as part of the same project, additional infrastructure projects were implemented in and around Beitbridge town, including a water reservoir, sewage treatment plant, fire station and a housing complex. The overall project value was USD 240 million.

As Lender’s Technical Advisor, MPAMOT Africa’s key contributions included, but were not limited to, risk minimisation pre- and post-financial close, certifying the achievement of milestones during construction and monitoring compliance with statutory requirements in relation to environmental and social safeguarding.

The upgraded Border Post now provides world-class border facilities and services to those who travel from South Africa into the rest of Africa through Zimbabwe. Since the opening of the updated facility, there has been a major reduction in throughput time for all travellers. This flagship project highlights what could be achieved with multidisciplinary teams collaborating in a public-private partnership.
